As one knows all dietary foods are required for the body. This includes calcium, carbohydrates, fats, proteins etc. These all need to be in equal proportion to get the exact effect. All these groups have their own functions such as proteins are for making our body strong. If our body lacks even one of then it may lead to a deficiency. So there is a need to keep a check on their dietary intake.

In the groups of vitamins there are many types and one of them is vitamin is vitamin D. Vitamin D is converted to its active hormones in the liver. This vitamin is a fat soluble vitamin and people who are health conscious can keep in touch with this vitamin. This is also called as calciferol. This vitamin is stored in the liver.

Functions of vitamin D

Vitamin D has many functions like the others. This is a vitamin which absorbs calcium from the food which is important for the development of healthy bones and teeth. It also maintains the blood level in the body. It keeps a check on the level of calcium and phosphorous. Vitamin D also absorbs the nutrients in the small intestine. It is also essential for mineralization of process of the bones. Without vitamin D our bones would have been thin, brittle and weak. Vitamin D also maintains a healthy immune system and regulates cell growth. Active vitamin D sends impulses to the brain to regulate everything. It improves the respiratory health and provides maturation to the body. It helps in better lung formation. It synthesis the mucus membrane that are important for transportation of calcium. Vitamin D reduces the risk of cancer and ad equates blood levels of insulin.  

Conclusion

Lack of this vitamin leads to rickets in children and osteomalacia in adults.  This mainly takes place in vegetarians. There are many sources to vitamin D such as all milk products such as ice creams, cheese. The synthesis of vitamin D takes place when directly in contact with the sun or in other words the ultra violet rays. This is the most easily found source. So overall if one takes care of their diet they wont have any deficiencies.
